ARTIST: DAVID BERGER 1906

#242 OF 275 17 X 24 PRINT

David was born in Bolder Colorado in 1906. He began his art studies in Denver at the age of 14. He continued his education at the Art Students League in New York and the Grand Chamier in Paris. During the War, Berger served with the combat engineers until after battle of the Bulge, when he was transferred to YANK Magazine as an artist-reporter. After the War, he taught art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and the New York Central Art School. Many of his works have been chosen for illustration in magazines in the United States, Britain, and France. His art has appeared in COLLIER’S, COSMOPOLITAN, SATURDAY EVENING POST and the French magazine MARIE-CLAIRE, and in Galleries in New York and Paris. Abstract painting is a very stimulating and instructive for an artist and is good training, Berger states," but in itself I feel that it negates life. For this reason I have remained figurative. I am interested in people and places and try to express my joy in viewing these things and to communicate my feelings to others."
