| ARTIST: JAMES BOREN 1921-1990 23 X 15 WATERCOLOR "By The K Loading Chute"JAMES BOREN, Painter of The Contemporary West in Oils & Watercolor, Brother of Jodie also a Contemporary Western Artist. Was born in Waxahachie, Tx. 1921. As a Ministers son, Boren calls himself " A Religious Person ". By the time he graduated from High School, he knew he wanted to be an illustrator. He quit Southwest College to enlist in the Marines for WW2. After the war, he enrolled in the Kansas City Art Institute earned his MFA in 1951. Taught for 2 years at St. Marys College. He says he would still be there if the pay had been better. After teaching he traveled the Southwest and painted in Alaska until 1956. He moved to Denver to work as a concept illustrator for the Marion Co. He began selling cowboy Paintings in 1959. I n 1964 he became the Art Director of the new Cowboy Hall of Fame. His Exhibition at the Hall in 1969 sold 28 of 30 paintings. He decided then it was time to be a full time Painter, he was until his death in 1990.He was named Texas State Artist of the Year in 1976. As a member of the Cowboy Artists of America he has won the Gold Medal in Watercolor seven times. In the fall of 1978 he was featured in Artists Of The Rockies October 1981 Southwest Art featured him. His prints are published by Mill Pond Press. He has also shown his work at the Texas Art Gallery. His work is highly regarded by collectors.
